Foreshocks and aftershocks
There were no foreshocks and, curiously, no aftershocks have been recorded at this time.

Felt Reports
The quake was sharply felt in south San Francisco Bay area but there have been no reports of damage or injuries at this time. It was felt as far away as Novato, Bradley and Merced.

Early reports indicate light items were knocked off shelves at the Hollister Safeway store.

People said the shaking lasted for a few seconds. Some said it felt like a swift jolt followed by a brief rolling sensation.

The most recent quake of comparable magnitude was the Gilroy M 5.2 earthquake that struck on May 13, 2002.
